And John was on hand again to take some snaps of my Laser 120 powered Super Cub having an outing. Still managed to flip it over on landing in the long grass though (no damage done – everything is so soggy and soft at the moment!)

Sadly up for sale now (I need the space) – I’m looking for around of £120 for the airframe and all servos (Futaba) – I need the engine and receiver (don’t forget it’s got flaps!)

I have the spats but don’t use them on account of the grass patch.

John Bishop’s Whirlgig Autogyro Thing

John has sent over an update on his Whirlygig autogyro project which some of us will recall from its erratic if not entertaining take off procedure, but which is nonetheless an awesome if not slightly puzzling (ie how does that work?) flying machine.

John reports that

‘After a rather hairy test flight performance is much better now since I replaced the earlier 3-bladed rotors with a 4-bladed set. Stability and general handling are much improved.’

Which is a good thing!

Vic’s New Hurricane

John Bishop sent over some shots of Vic’s Hurricane getting its maiden flight. It’s a Mk 1 Hurricane in Polish airforce colours. Vic’s research tells him that this squadron was chalking up the highest number of kills early in the war because of the experience and expertise of the Polish pilots.

John reports:

Carlos’s Ansaldo SVA 5 – Maiden Flight

Congratulations to Carlos Guerra whose magnificent Ansaldo SVA 5 had its maiden flight at Stow Maries aerodrome on Saturday 6th May.

At 33kg it’s firmly in the ‘Large Model’ category and Ian Redshaw took the sticks on this occasion to make it fly. A change of prop for the second flight the following day gave increased performance. Carlos took this video of the first flight with barely a tremor evident as he grasped his camcorder:

Tony Box unveiled his winter build, the “Tipsy Belfair” had its maiden flight on Sunday 25th March. All went well and needed hardly any trim.

Our April meeting will be on Tuesday 10^th April, at the usual venue of Trowbidge Cricket Club.

Adrian from Nexus Model supplies will bring all his wares for us to purchase.

Club meeting dates and events

The club BBQ and fun day will be Sunday 19^th August, weather permitting.

Meeting dates set for the autumn are September 11^th, October 16^thand the AGM 6^th November.

There will not be any club competitions during the year, but flyers will be judged on their year’s performance at the end of the year for any trophies to be given out at the AGM
