Tony’s Tipsey Part Two

Tony Box has been cracking on with his pretty Tipsey Belfair and has sent over the latest photo.

He writes:

‘Well it’s nearly ready after the Winter build. For those who don’t recognise it, it’s a Tipsy Belfair, which is the enclosed cockpit version of the Tipsy Trainer.

About 7ft span and hopefully pulled about by the Laser 120 hidden up front. The full size Belfair G-AOXO no longer exists, as it was written off after hitting a fence post while landing at Eastbach farm airfield in the Forest of Dean in 1975. There is only one left on the UK register, that is a red one G-APIE.’

Bring and Buy Evening – Tuesday 13th March

Tony Box has asked me to remind everyone that:

Tuesday 13th March, we have our famous “Bring and Buy” evening. Bring any unwanted modelling goods, models, tools, radio etc that you have no longer any use for. It doesn’t necessarily have to be modelling goods either, anything you want to dispose of (within reason).

There are no set-up charges, just haggle with the seller. Don’t forget to bring some cash as well, or you may miss that bargain!

This meeting is open to all modellers, not just Warminster Club members.

The meeting is to be held at the Trowbridge Cricket Club at 7.30pm

Cirrus Moth Kit Build

John Bishop has sent over a photo of his winter project:

He says:

‘You have been posting details of winter projects – I’m starting mine a little on the late side!
It’s a Cirrus Moth – D.B Sport and Scale kit. I’ve opened the box – does that count?’

It’s taken me a few days to post this – it’s probably half-finished by now. Flying shots to follow?

Club Meeting Tuesday 7th February

We will have as our guest Peter Dauncey. Peter was the chief designer at Airfix models and  we have probably all built an Airfix model at some time. Peter is also the well known Town Crier and Town Councillor for Melksham. A light buffet will be provided this evening and there will be a raffle. If you would like to provide a raffle prize, please bring it along on the night.

Third Scale Fokker DV11

My Winter project has finally got enough bits to put together to resemble an aeroplane. (Don’t ask which Winter – it’s getting embarrassing.)
Built from a Balsa USA kit it’s going to have a 62cc Zenoah with a Mick Reeves reduction unit to swing the prop.
I maintain that progress would have been quicker if I’d been allowed to use my power tools in the lounge.

So, just the engine to strap in, some radio gear and linkages to sort out, a yard or two of covering, and off we go! (And some guns and a pilot of course – don’t want to be laughed at.)

At the Patch

John Bishop has kindly sent over some more flying shots from 2011.

slightly wet at the moment

Hi All, all the best for this new 2012. Over here we are starting the year with a bit too much water.

You can see the barrier where our pits is, beyond that there’s a football field size flying strip.

Happy Days

John Bishop has rightly spotted that there are few ‘flying shots’ at the moment (I have a vast collection of action photos of bits of aeroplanes, but very few complete compositions worthy of posting) and has kindly sent over a few of Pat’s Pitts to remind us of warmer, sunnier times.

Note the bendy prop. And that presumably is only on tickover!

Can’t recall any useful technical details about it, other than the fantastic artwork and Pat’s usual build quality.
Oh, and the fact that he once confused the ‘Snap Roll’ switch with the ‘Smoke On’ one when we were watching and had a few exciting moments before landing successfully and walking somewhat uncomfortably back to the pits!

Tony’s Tipsy!

Or, more accurately perhaps, ‘Tony’s Tipsy Belfair’

Tony Box has chosen yet another intriguing project for his annual winter build and has sent over some shots of progress so far.

He writes
‘ If you are unfamilier with it, it is the enclosed cockpit version of the Tipsy Trainer. There is only 1 left flying in the UK that is G-APIE, if you google it you will see the full size. Mine is 7ft span, from a plan, and will have a laser 120 for power. The plan was for the Tipsy Trainer, but have altered the office to make it the Belfair.’

Another cracking project from Tony – any more out there for us to enjoy?

Roy Packer’s Regal Eagle

Can’t be many of these around now but Roy’s found one from somewhere and has obviously been making the most of this miserable weather to finish it off.
MVVS 35cc petrol  powered and just waiting for the right day for a test flight, according to Roy. Looking forward to photos/video!

Hang on  a tick..
I recognise that determined set of the chin and that steely glare.
It’s MiniRoy!!!

Any more winter builds out there to share with us?
